The Prevention and Control of Zoonoses: from Science to Policy

Welcome to Liverpool!

Liverpool Waterfront
Last year, Liverpool was awarded both the European City of Culture for 2008 and status as a World Heritage Site. Amongst the protected sites is the dock front where Prevention and Control of Zoonoses 2005 will be held. We look forward to welcoming you to our vibrant and friendly city in June 2005

Conference Venue

The Conference will be housed in one of the city's newest hotel developments, the Crowne Plaza at Princes Dock, right alongside theWalker Art Gallery world famous Liver Buildings on which the Liver Birds of our conference logo perch. Accomodation is available either in the Crowne Plaza or in several other hotels suiting all budgets within a mile or so of the Dock front.

Social Programme

A drinks reception hosted by the Lord Mayor of Liverpool (Wednesday evening) will take place in the Walker Art Gallery in the centre of Liverpool, known as the Cultural Quarter, about 20 minutes walk from the Crowne Plaza. The gallery has recently been refurbished and is especially rich in European Old Masters, Victorian and Pre-Raphaelite pictures and modern British works. There is an exciting exhibition programme, including Britain's premier painting biennial, the John Moores exhibition. There will be an opportunity to tour the gallery after hours and the venue is well placed for the abundant restaurant options that Liverpool city centre has to offer.
Liverpool Maritime Museum

The Conference Dinner will be held in the Merseyside Maritime Museum, a part of the renovated Albert Dock area. The museum is located a few minutes walk along the dock front from the Crowne Plaza, passing the famed 'Three Graces' that make up part of the World Heritage Site. Dinner will include a pre-dinner drinks reception and opportunity to tour the museum galleries with many fine historical paintings of Liverpool's maritime heyday and the major exhibition Liverpool to New York, celebrating more than 100 years of transatlantic travel and exploring the experiences of passengers and crew. The exhibition will take visitors away on a journey from Liverpool to New York, discovering life above and below deck on cruise liners that sailed from the 1900s to the present day. The vast scale of ships, the frenzied preparations before setting sail and the wide range of passengers are all brought to life through striking images, artefacts, personal stories and original film footage. The cost of the Conference dinner will be £30 per head (including VAT).
